WELCOME TO AN ADVENTUROUS LIFESTYLE

EXPLORE AMERICA. LIVE DIFFERENTLY.

WHY HOME ON WHEELS EXISTS

Home on Wheels started in 2018 in Switzerland when we made a decision that completely changed our lives. We sold almost everything we owned, stepped away from the comfort and predictability of our everyday routine, and set out to see what life could look like beyond the path we had always known.

Like many people dreaming about life on the road, we had no idea what we were really getting ourselves into. We spent hundreds of hours researching RV travel, camping, visas, shipping vehicles overseas, internet on the road, and just about everything else you can imagine. We wanted to be prepared for every situation.

The funny thing is, no matter how much research you do, you’re still going to make mistakes. And trust us, we made plenty of them. Some cost money, some cost time, and some simply gave us great stories to laugh about later. But every wrong turn, every challenge, and every lesson learned helped us gain experience that no amount of reading ever could.

That’s exactly why Home on Wheels exists.

We created this website to share the things we wish we had known when we started. The practical tips, the honest advice, the lessons learned the hard way, and the little details that can make a huge difference when you’re planning your own adventure. Whether you’re looking for camping advice, RV tips, information about traveling in the USA, shipping your rig overseas, homeschooling your kids, or flying internationally with your dog, our goal is to make your journey a little easier than ours was.

We also believe there’s enough negativity, fear, and division in the world already. We’d rather spend our time helping people chase experiences, see new places, meet interesting people, and realize that life doesn’t have to fit neatly into the box society often expects us to stay in. We’re not saying everyone should sell everything and hit the road. But we do encourage people to ask questions, think differently, and explore possibilities they may have never considered. Sometimes all it takes is one brave step outside your comfort zone. Once you realize there are other ways to live, travel, and experience the world, it’s hard to look at things the same way again.

Don’t be afraid to be the fish that swims upstream. Take the scenic route. Follow your curiosity. Build a life that feels right for you, not one that simply follows the crowd. If our experiences, mistakes, and adventures can help you do that, then Home on Wheels is doing exactly what it was created to do.

Why We Think the USA Is One of the Best Countries for RV Travel

We chose the USA for full-time RV life and never looked back. Since then, we’ve explored all of the Lower 48 as a family of four, discovering incredible national parks, charming small towns, scenic backroads, and unforgettable campsites along the way. Every mile has shown us just how RV-friendly, diverse, and adventure filled this country really is. With endless road trip routes, welcoming campgrounds, and breathtaking landscapes around every corner, we truly believe the USA is one of the best places in the world to explore in your home on wheels. One road trip is all it takes. The USA has a way of making you want to come back for more.

Living this lifestyle has changed the way we see travel, family life, and freedom and we share our real experiences to help others take their first steps with confidence.

ADVENTURE Awaits

Escape Routine and Explore the USA Through RV Travel and Life on the Road

After selling everything in Switzerland to start a life of full-time RV travel, we discovered that freedom means adapting when the wind changes. Traveling across the USA, we experienced its wide-open landscapes and the friendly people that make life on the road feel like home.
